Excellent Windows, Doors & Conservatories in Basingstoke

Double glazed window frames are usually made from uPVC, aluminium or timber. But which of these popular materials is best for you?

Here we take a look at some of the benefits of each.

uPVC Window Frames

uPVC is the most commonly used material for double glazed window frames. It’s affordable and adaptable as it comes in a range of different colours and finishes including wood effect.

The benefit of uPVC is that it provides first-class insulation as it’s filled with an insulating material. uPVC is suitable for nearly all windows because it can be moulded to the size and shape required.

Another advantage of uPVC frames is that they’re extremely low maintenance. They don’t need painting and are easy to clean. Simply wipe over with a damp cloth.

Key features of Excellent Windows uPVC frames:

  • Guaranteed high quality
  • Secure and durable
  • Frames to suit all needs and budgets
  • Available in different colours and finishes
  • Easy to maintain
  • Designed with multi-locking window closing system for enhanced security
  • Timber frames

Different types of hardwood can be used to construct timber frames. The wood must be stained or painted, meaning you can choose practically any shade you want for your window frames.

Timber is durable and robust, acting as solid insulation. Wooden frames tend to work well in older houses and period properties as they have a traditional look – they’re also perfect if your home has original features.

However, timber frames are more expensive than uPVC double glazed window frames, and they also require maintenance. Timber frames must be weather-proofed. If they’re not fully protected, they can absorb moisture, which will cause them to warp or split over time.

Key features of Excellent Windows timber frames:

  • Most environmentally-friendly frame option
  • Reduces condensation by up to 70%
  • Reduces heat loss through windows by up to 94%
  • A rated, C rated, triple glazed windows with a 0.8 u value
  • Secure design with multi-locking window closing
  • Choice of colours for the timber frame

Aluminium Window Frames

Aluminium is strong but lightweight. Aluminium frames are robust enough to hold heavy sheets of glass; therefore, they can be used for larger windows. The frames are also highly secure.

As well as being strong, aluminium is durable and will last for many years. The only exception to this is if you live in a coastal area as this could cause the metal to corrode.

Aluminium frames tend to have an insulating strip, or a layer of foam insulation added to their cavity. This helps to reduce heat loss and increase their insulation properties.

Aluminium frames require little maintenance and can be painted with a special paint to the colour of your choice.

Key features of Excellent Windows aluminium frames:

  • Thermally efficient window system
  • Stronger and more durable than uPVC
  • Extensive range of styles, finishes and colours
  • Highly secure with fully adjustable multi-point locking mechanisms
  • Reduces condensation by up to 70%
  • Reduces heat loss through windows by up to 94%
  • A rated, C rated, triple glazed windows with a 0.8 u value
